Twilight the Movie

Is it just me or does this movie look like it is going to suck...thus not going to see it. Two things...I feel like Edward did not look like a heroin addict and thats what Robert Pattison looks like. I mean he didnt in Harry Potter... he was actually kinda cute as Cedric Diggory. But he looks a hot dirty mess right now. If they had kept him looking like Cedric but changed the hair color...maybe. But yeah, don't like it.

Plus I feel like when you see movies like this, it ruins the books for you. The Harry Potter books were ruined for me until the third movie. Well thats because the first two movies absolutly sucked. And I feel like Twilight is going to be like that.

I don't even know if I'll watch it on DVD. Just like the Sookie books were ruined by True Blood first sex scene for me... I don't think Imma risk it.

My Thoughts On TrueBlood

So I was really really anticipating this as everyone knows I love, "The Sookie Stackhouse Mysteries". So I went to Blockbuster and they had the first episode available for preview. So of course I get it. So I watched it and I'm happy and very disappointed all at the same time.

It was just too much sex. It really wasn't that much, but it's like... this isn't Anita Blake. There wasn't that much graphicness of the sex in the book... so why did they have to overdo it in the movie? I'm just saying. I know it is HBO and they kinda had to sell the series to more than just vamp readers...but still. I was actually turned off. So I guess that means I will be more happy with Twilight then huh?

I'm just saying, they coulda done the sex scenes with a little more class. Just because it was on HBO doesn't mean I'm tryna see all that.

But overall... I'm pretty happy. They got the plot. SO surprised they made Tara black. Love that! Her and Lafayette were the best part. "I don't give a good got damn". YES!

And we all know Sookie was supposed to be on the chonkay side. Why is she a size 4? Just saying.

Overall, I enjoyed beside the gratuitious sex parts. I will watch next week just to see if they tone it down. If they don't, Imma have to watch the rated version. Two thumbs up though.

That's Why You're The Press Secretary Boo Boo!

Charlie Wilson's War is a pretty good movie...but it just makes you think. Charlie Wilson...yes he started the end of the Cold War and blah blah. But that dude had some questionable moral integrity issues. I'm just saying. That's who is running the country huh. But then again I think it is the same thing as Marion Berry being caught with Crack and being reelected for a second term.

Hella morally wayward country runners and ish.

But yeah, Charlie Wilson's War was good.

Club Fed

So I'm watching this really wierd movie called Club Fed, and in the last 20 minutes, they have had a number of great quotes. I will list a few.

"She's also a harlot. I caught her in bed with the mailman, the milkman, and the butler, and all at the same time"

(This guy got a shocker put in his anus to correct his bad activies) "I just don't understand, do you still think it is necessary for me to be electronically raped?"

I think I am a quote fiend, I think imma make another post with some more quotes from other movies.

30 Years to Life

I vaguely remember back in the day when "The Wood" and "The Best Man" came out, people were saying they were weren't representative of the African American community. WTF? Have you never heard of Buppies. I mean come on son. As everyone knows, I love LMN, and they actually played a black movie today, "30 years to life". This is definitely one of my favorite movies, mainly because it shows well to do non-ignorant black people. Not every black movie has to be those semi minstrel movies like, Soul Plane and ish.

Anyway, this is supposed to be about "30 Years to Life". This is a great movie for a couple of reason. #1, as said before, they showed well to do black people. One was a lawyer, one was trying to make partner at a business firm, they were just doing it up. #2, I think it is an accurate depiction of black friends in their mid to late 20's. Granted, I am still in my early twenties, however, being in grad school, most of my friends (outside of law school) are in their mid to late twenties. The relationships are real, the struggles are real. In addition, I think it addresses issues that young black professionals deal with.

Freaking great movie man...

Lifetime Movie Network

I think I've mentioned this before, but I absolutely love Lifetime Movie Network (LMN). I mean honestly, you can spend an entire Saturday on the couch watching movie after movie after movie. Yes, the acting is quite uninspired and the plots are kinda thin and they do repeat, it is GOOD STUFF. That's part of the reason I like it, you don't have to think, it's nothing to serious about it. Well let me clarify, I do not like the movies where people are dying and the sad ones (they tend to play those on the weekdays though, they play the good one murder/suspense/thriller ones on Saturdays). I just finished watching on yesterday that was 3:30 minutes of straight goodness. Loved it! It was called 1st to Die. It really kinda didn't make sense, but it did in an odd ball sort of way.

My How You've Grown

OK, so I just got back from seeing "Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix" and all I have to say it.....grrrrreat. How dare unnamed news paper give it a 2.5 stars. What the freak ever. I will write more on this when I am a bit more coherent. What I will say is it is amazing to see how the actors have grown up. Rupert Grint aka Ron has grown into quite a handsome young man in a wierd/off kinda way. How dare he be kinda built. Seamus' jawline was a bit manly...thus majorly disturbing. Neville wanted to get all tall and ish. Harry, still short as ever, but the face was totally different...not the young chubby face we are used to...

Very wow. At least Hermione looked the same.

The truth in The Truth About Cats and Dogs

So I first saw this movie when it came out (on HBO of course) and I liked it, I thought I was cute. Yeah, I was in like 7th grade and really didn't understand that this movie has sooo much truth in it. I was watching last night and even though it was a comedy I was moved by it. Probably because the main character reminded me of myself in sooooo many ways. Low self-esteem is a biotch.. seriously though.

But my absolute favorite part of the movie... can anyone guess? The part where they were talking on the phone all night (sans the phone relations part). She was fully able to be herself without holding back because dude couldnt see what she looked like. It's so sad because I feel like that at times...not because I don't think Im attractive, but because I'm not what society tells people is attractive so sometimes that gets drilled into my head. But anyway... that part just really kind touched me.

Other than that, the movie kinda irked me cuz dude was wierd.

The Break-Up

Intresting movie.... the funniest part was the gay brother... otherwise, it really wasn't funny. It's kinda real though....

"American Dreamz" and "The Terrorist"

So I am watching "American Dreamz" and it reminds me of a mix of of course, "American Idol" and the movie, "The Terrorist". I can't decide if it was good or not... OK, it wasn't good, but it was decent. Oddly enough, it had a LOT of similarities to "The Terrorist", I seriously think the dude that wrote "American Dreamz" saw "The Terrorist" and liked it and really wanted to make another movie like it. It had the same basic plot, except "The Terrorist" was about the Tamil Tigers and "American Dreamz" is about some radical group in the middle east. Malli's whole family was killed by this guerrilla group, Omer's family was bombed by and American bomb. Malli joined a terrorist group to avenge her brothers death... Omer joined a terrorist group to avenge his mothers death. Malli gets placed with this family who is supposed to be teaching her botany... Omer gets placed with his cousins who are teaching him to sing. Eventually Malli comes to love this family that she is put with and starts having second thoughts about the attack... Omer comes to love his family and somewhat of America and starts having doubts about the attack. That's where the similarities end because they don't tell us what happens in "The Terrorist". It's not an American movie so they didn't feel the need to spell out the ending... they let the viewer decide what happened. In "American Dreamz", Omer has a change of heart and doesn't do it.

But in all seriousness... I wonder if the writer of American Dreams saw this movie... the similarities are uncanny.

You've Got Mail

Wow... this movie oddly resembles August 2006-January 2007 of my life... it is sooo not even funny. I had never seen this movie before, but it is like a carbon copy of six months of my life. Except it wasn't email, it was AIM... and I really do know the dude... I didn't meet him in a chat room (but AIM was basically the only way I talked to him because we live 3,000 miles away). The scene where they were trying to show the excitement that they both got from the "You've Got Mail" alert was the same excitement I used to get from that bloop/bleep that comes up when you get a new IM. Yeah, but I didn't end up with dude and he didn't put me out of business.

Last Random Post of the Day

Yeah, I am extra bored here at work today and it is not cool. Anyway, I just remembered something I meant to write about a couple of days ago. Like I was saying, I have BET Jazz and sometimes they play extra old videos. So a couple of days ago, I came across a Kid N Play video, "Ain't Gon Hurt Nobody" which is from the movie, "House Party2". So I was watching the video and then all of a sudden I wanted to see the movie. I looked on my TV... and oddly enough it was coming on the next day... so I watch it... and yeah. All I have to say is that Play was so grimy it's not even funny. He just looked straight gross, and the fact that he was just straight lecherous did not help either. I mean seriously. And he thought he was mad sexy... he just looked like he had like 5 strains of HPV mixed up with some gonorrhea. Seriously though..... very boo

You wanna see a random playlist of music that I like and is pretty hard to find.... ok click.......HERE

Donnie Darko

Donnie Darko (2001), no matter how dark it is, is a pretty good movie. I had never seen it before today, but I really like it. The kinda alternate universe type thing going on... it really makes you think. And the whole existentialism part of it, that he was forced to do all of these things to make life and time right. Plus, even though he hasn't been in that many movies, Jake Gyllenhaal is a really good actor. And for some reason, his extreme funny looking-ness kinda makes him a little attractive... weird I know. I also saw Brokeback Mountain (2005) for the first time a couple of days ago, well actually, I didn't see the tent scenes, but I saw the rest after the cowboy dance he went to with Anne Hathaway and I must say it was a pretty good movie too. And he was good in The Good Girl (2001) too, kinda the same dark person, but it was good.

By the way, that bunny suit thing was mad scary... I didn't like it... those teeth man!

This movie also introduced me to the song, "Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears which was featured in a school yard montage in the movie. Apparently, this is like a classic scene in the movie... see for yourself.

Potter Releases

I am a little uncomfortable that the new Harry Potter book and the fifth movie are supposed to be coming out within a week of each other. I think it is a bit too much. Don't get me wrong, I thought the book was supposed to come out in 2008, so when I heard it was coming out in six months, I was very excited.

Just not sure how to react to all this Harry Potter news going on.

Night At the Museum

I must mention... at the ending credits, Dick Van Dyke was getting it when he was dancing. Mickey Rooney and Bill Cobbs were OK... but Dick Van Dyke was GETTING IT. The guy is 81 years old and was dancing so fluidly it was ridiculous. That's how I want to be when I get 81. No, that's how I want to be when I am fifty.

Anyway, I am not exactly sure why, but I am a hugh Ben Stiller fan. So much so that I think I have seen every movie he has done since, "Heavyweights". I know his style of comedy is a bit repetitious, but it is funny to me nonetheless. Anyhoo, it was a good movie overall... although I don't really think it was a kids movie (who it was intended for). For most of the funniest parts, none of the kids laughed, it was only the adults.

The only bad thing about the movie to me was that it was a bit historically inaccurate. Everyone knows that in the times of the building of the pyramids and such, the Egyptians were "closer to" Africans than to Middle Easterns. Yes yes, I am well aware that Egypt is in Africa, thus, ipso facto, Egyptians were Africans, but that is not the context that I am using it in. Egyptians had darker skin at that period of time.. basically. Anyway, they made an Egyptian prince looked like he was straight out of Persia... which really bothered me... but whatever.

Overall, a pretty good movie.
